When in Doubt, Jump In The Pool!

Posted: November 11, 2011 in SHORTCUTS

Was debating a very difficult decision earlier today. It seemed quite important and required a response very quickly. There were so many angles to look at and the stakes were high. Pressure like this: Not fun.

So there I was, stuck between a rock and a hard place… At which point I just ran, and jumped into the swimming pool!!

The water cooled my overheated brain, set at ease my thoughts, and relaxed my body. It was a sense of freedom and control. Nobody was in charge except me.

Nothing could stop me, not even those hectic thoughts I was having earlier.

Wait… What was I thinking of before?

Snap!

Over.

(It’s good to get away sometimes)

This beach is just shells of its former self!

Today I said to myself “I haven’t written a poem for ages, I should do one right now”, only to find myself staring at a blank page for 30 minutes. Then toying with a few words, and deleting them. Then remembering my blog from a little while ago “The Ebb and Flow of Thought”.

In the post I basically said it’s ok for your mind to have times when the “spark” isn’t so “sparkly” (not in those words), and that we shouldn’t always fight to be in a “Flow” frame of mind when we’re in an “Ebb” and vice versa. This is ringing so true right now for me and poetry. There’s a reason I haven’t written poems in a while. I’m just not consciously aware of it yet, and that’s okay. Something’s happening in my mind sub-consciously, and I won’t fight it.

So tonight, I am satisfied to not have a poem ready for posting sometime soon. The “poet” in me is experiencing a definite ebb. A receding of energy. It’s a two-way process however, and the ebb cannot exist without the flow. Plus, it takes a receding of the waters for treasures from the seas to be revealed. I look forward to that!

I’m at peace with that.

YOU NEVER Go On Holiday!

Posted: October 29, 2011 in Inspired!, SHORTCUTS

The year is coming to an end, and many people are gearing up for Holiday season. Our minds are winding down with thoughts of final endeavours, whether it’s exams or deadlines, we are filled with a bunch of things coming to an end. “Finishing off” is the order of the season, because we’ll have a great time relaxing afterwards. External responsibility is giving you one final push before the timeout that is Christmas and New Year’s.

However you may have some personal agendas that actually could suffer at this time of year. You might become very good at doing everything, except You! (more…)

Recently i was sitting at my laptop enjoying my new adventure of having internet in my room. Being able to check out various sites, work on my blogs, keep my updates up-to-date, amongst other semi-serious endeavours. A chat I’d been semi-paying attention to suddenly turned serious. A friend of mine had gone through some relationship trouble, and it finally hit a climax with the inevitable “break up”. The guy was destroyed! Kept talking about all the things she said, and how he felt so useless. He was totally in love with her, and believed it was all his fault. Then he said, “Maybe I’m not worth it.”

This statement shook me, because it was clear the lady was clueless about what she had (immaturity I guess), but more so I also realised that in light of our Dream and Destiny, there’s a lot of things that we are worth, and to believe otherwise has the impact of blinding us to the precious lessons and opportunities that lie before us, and those to come (LONG sentence!). (more…)

I have lots to say about this topic.

And that’s the problem.

Over.

Recently I decided I was going to try my hand at poetry. I’m sure some of you have seen my first attempt: ME. The poem itself was a way of breaking out of the fears we’ve had and the possibilities that await us, if we just allow ourselves to BE. However, this is not an article about my poems. This is really about the act of ‘discovering yourself’. (more…)

Your shoulders are strained. Your steps drag. Your pace deteriorates. Your breathing…………..laboured. Sweat is pouring down your face profusely, stinging your squinted eyes. Each breath burns in your chest, filling you with fire that tries to consume you. Your slow and delayed steps, are ironically the fastest way to becoming something you don’t want to be! Yet you continue…

Ever felt like this? You’re probably holding on to something you shouldn’t be. Maybe its a pointless relationship, or a negative habit… Whatever it is, it’s what we call “Dead Weight”. The fact that it’s a ‘weight’ isn’t the issue. We carry stuff in our minds all the time, and some of it is tough, some of it is pleasant…either way, its something we carry. Everything we carry ‘weighs’ on us in one way or another.

No, weight isn’t the problem here. A lack of Life is!

The problem is that what you’re carrying is Dead! Meaning it has gone past the point of meaning and use in your life. When you’re carrying Dead Weight, you’re literally working hard to waste your time! Yes I just said that. You’re putting effort in something that won’t bear any fruit… Ever.

It actually goes against Nature to carry something dead and still have any purpose to it. A pregnant woman carries a living organism in her called a baby, that has the potential to live and eventually reproduce. Fruit carries seed within it, with the potential for more life. Even dogs walk around with fleas that are alive!

Yet when something dies, it needs too be released or expelled. That’s just Nature’s course. Why? Because as long the Dead Weight stays, nothing NEW can grow in its place. Life cannot reproduce where there’s death. Dead leaves fall away, rotten fruit drops off the branch, dead animals are consumed by vultures and maggots. Even dead fleas can’t stay on the dog!

Bring on the living fleas!

Dead Weight has no potential for future life. Only future death. So if its introduced into your decision-making for the tomorrow, it can only perpetuate more death. It’s NEVER good for you to make decisions this way. You think you’re putting a nice fence to protect your heart, but what you’ve actually is hire the Agents from The Matrix, and the entire world of high-tech security; thrown in a giant wall that’s made of titanium that is higher than most skyscrapers, and an electricity field as your roof.
Sure, nothing and nobody will get in, but neither will YOU GET OUT! You’re stuck in your own bondage…oops, meant to say boundary.

It could be the memory of a heartbreak, the words of a parent, the fears of your childhood, the fears of adulthood, or even a past failure… It’s all Dead Weight, and it was meant to be let go of! Nature does it, so stop trying to be clever… Let it fall away..

Stop calling it back from the dead! Have you ever seen a woman walk around with a dead baby on her back, acting like its alive? I bet you haven’t. And if you have I bet it will be an image you won’t forget. When someone dies, you bury them.

Bury your Dead Weight.

Let it Rest In Peace!

Over.

It has been an issue for most people including myself, to get things done as and when they should. This is bad enough when you have a deadline, but becomes a nightmare when it’s something you can do “in your own time”. Activities ranging from writing a blog (!!!) to going to the gym, all fall under the latter category that is so hard to deal with.

It takes some pretty serious character and resolve to beat the procrastination bug, and many of us sometimes struggle to find that resolve. Is it fear? Maybe it’s a deep-seated sense of pain coming from childhood? Well, it could be either of those, but I find in my case, it’s usually the third option: LAZINESS!

Hey wait, I didn’t say YOUR name. I’m not even looking at you! I’m just sharing a moment of vulnerability here. This isn’t just to say you (or me..for your sake) are like this in every area of your life. Sometimes however we are trained to prioritize everything except ourselves. We can pay the bills, we can go to work, we can finish that assignment…but taking the walk I said I needed to ages ago, just never seems to happen.

I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty good at distracting myself FROM myself! Read that line again and see if maybe I could’ve been looking at you. I’m not even sure where that started, but it’s happening.

What are you distracting yourself from doing, that could really benefit you personally, even if it’s in a selfish way? Is there a book you should be reading? A person you need to speak to? A situation you need to confront? Whichever it is, you have to resolve to GET IT DONE!

Don’t live your life having done everything except everything THAT MATTERED!
I don’t know about you, but I’m going to have more fun with my camera. I bought it to document scenery I love, so I should JUST take those shots.

Take a shot at YOUR life in the free time you have. Get things done.

SHORTCUT: Thought on Awareness

Our surroundings are quite easy to miss. I remember realising just how much skips our attention, and that there are so many mini and major events taking place around us constantly. They might not matter ultimately, but some are priceless, and could change the course of your future!

On any trip you can decide on one of two focuses: the Destination, or the Journey.
Doing either exclusively is not a bad thing. The Destination focus keeps you set on something, it also keeps OUT distraction. Good, right? The Journey focus makes life around you magical.. It’s the ‘scenic route’. Anything and everything goes, cos its just about the experience. Every feeling and thought must be explored.

See, two focuses. I’d like to present a third: Relevance. It brings a combination of both. You have your destination in mind, but you also know to be AWARE of what’s around you. This awareness allows you to seek out experiences relevant to the destination. It isn’t as clear cut as it seems, but you can genuinely explore what is happening around you. All it is, is connecting back to your destination.

I believe that life is happening all around you. Take some time to smell the roses, meet people…you might make discoveries that lead you closer to your destination, or even things that bring more light to where you’re going… Making it a more exciting venture, and feeding you with energy. Your dreams are probably wrapped up in exploration

Your life could improve greatly if you learn Relevance. It gives you freedom with focus.

Who doesn’t want that?
